In line with the preference for vegetarian and Jain food in the the plush Malabar Hill aka SoBo localities, Kurries and Burries an Asian-Mexican vegetarian eatery gets added to the list. Tucked in the by lanes of Girgaon Chowpatty, this 15 seater QSR attempts to dish out popular international cuisine namely Mexican, Thai, Chinese and Burmese at affordable prices.
I popped in there at 7, after a peaty afternoon of Whisky tastings all I needed was some food for the soul. The dumpling soup was heartwarming but the dumplings were mediocre. The Sichuan Paneer with crackling spinach was tossed to perfection and the portion size was generous. Moving on to the other side of the world, I ordered a Mex-o-fusion Quesadilla and a Mexican Mex-wich. The former came in rustic looking freshly griddled corn tortillas packed with exotic veggies and cheese and was heavy on chilli. The latter was a deep-fried tortilla parcel stuffed with a beans and paneer and topped with salsa, sour cream and a rich cheese sauce. Both dishes had a Mexican influence and were comfort food in the truest sense. I ended with the Burmese Khow Suey, the sauce was rich and flavour and the noodles came topped with the classic accompaniments. The noodles (weren’t rice) however did not complement the dish, ask for steamed rice instead!!
Overall in my opinion the place is great value for money and is here to stay. They are still teething, have got their Mexican – comfort food and their Chinese right, have some work to do on the Burmese and a lots to do on their dimsums.
P.S: They have a Jain selection, they home deliver and lastly if you have the belly, do try their 1kg Burrito Man vs. Food challenge!!!
